DR: Let's bring in our fifth and fourth place finishers,
Boo and Yau-Man. Thanks for being here guys. They
don't look very happy, do they? Why should they?
They didn't win, I don't blame 'em. Yau, we're starting
with you and you know why, the big deal with Dreamz. There
are so many elements and things to get in here. The first
thing I want to ask, why isn't this guy going up to Dreamz,
maybe late because Dreamz changes his mind a little bit.
You want to hit him late. Why not go up to him and say,
"You're a man of your word. You've told me you're going to
give me the idol, after you do that, I'm not going to vote you
out. You're safe, you're going to go to the finals with
me. We're going to take Cassandra out." Did
that occur to you?
Yau-Man: That occurred to me to do it at
the Tribal Council but during the heat of the conversation it
sort of didn't come up again. I thought about that and I
said, at the TC when the discussion comes up, I would want
to see if I can try that. As the TC went on and on, I got
more and more arrogant to myself, "He's going go give it to
me." I guess I was wrong.
DR: So you didn't try at all at
TC? A lot of that stuff gets edited out.
Yau-Man: I wish I had.
JM: Did it ever occur to you
during the immunity challenge... when it was just you two left,
I'm thinking...if he really wants to give the idol to Yau he
would have just let you win. It would have been an easier
thing but when he is holding on there I'm thinking I don't know
if he's gonna give it to you because he's putting up a
fight.
Yau-Man: In fact, before we went
in the challenge he was quite adamant that he's going to win it
for me. I remember his words, "I'm a man of my
word. I'm going to win this, I'm going to give it to
you." So it didn't occur to me to ask him to throw it
for me. Later I thought that it would have been easier to
ask him to throw it. I don't know if he would. I
don't think he's the type of person who would want to throw a
challenge.
DR: Clear something else up for
us as well. Stacy said that part of the whole deal that
you made with Dreamz was that everyone had to agree to vote your
way in the final four. Is that true?
Yau-Man: That is true to a
certain extent. I wanted him to convince the others to
vote this way. To me, when he's not going to honor, it
doesn't matter how it goes.
JM: You seemed to play to
win. You knew what was going on. Knowing Dreamz
either gives it up to you or he's gone, did you really blame him
for making that decision? Were you angry or did you
understand...would you have sacrificed yourself?
Yau-Man: If I were in his place I
would have probably honored the deal and then made a deal so I
could stay.
DR: Boo, you're out of the game
already when we saw Dreamz decide to keep it. We saw your
final words at Tribal. You get a little fire and brimstone
on us. Tell us your thoughts when Dreamz did not give up
the idol.
Boo: It blew me away. I
didn't see that coming at all. I thought Dreamz was a man
of his word. The whole time he was like, "I'm a
Christian. I'm a man of my word. I'm Dreamz. I
want my son to see that I'm honorable." I
believed him. I think Jeff pulled him. Jeff reeled
him in.
DR: This deal, we keep talking
about how it screwed Yau-Man over. It really screwed you
over as well.
Boo: They didn't show it but I
wasn't happy. I should have not gone with the deal.
It would have made the show a lot better. I was the last
one to accept the deal. I got nothing out of it except we
have to do what Yau says.
DR: Why would anyone that
wouldn't get a car agree to that?
Boo: I was still hoping that they would take me in.
Yau-Man: I was very surprised that people agreed.
Boo: He thought about giving me the
deal.
Caller: My compliments to both
Yau-Man and Boo. Yau, the audience reaction said it
all. Boo, you were my favorite going in. I felt that
your honesty, integrity and personal beliefs in this deceitful
game prevented you from forming an essentially strong core alliance
from the start. If given the opportunity to participate
again knowing what you know now about the game from your
experiences, would you do it again?
DR: It's gotta be yes from both for
you, I assume?
Yau-Man: Absolutely, yes.
Boo: And for All Stars.
Yau-Man: All Stars, yes with some
slight reservation. Everybody knows that I'm not the
underdog. Now I have to come out with something completely
different.
Boo: He's worried about his daughters
missing him.
DR: You have to realize, if and
when there's an All Stars, and I believe it will probably be
next Spring, that's 16 [Season 16], that's my guess, because
they did one at 8 and then another 8. I think the people
that are in more trouble going to All Stars are the winners and
people who have been very duplicitous. You were seen as
very smart and cunning but not lying. At least you'll be a
little more trustworthy.
JM: The jury also mentioned the
integrity. It's just so hard for me at TC when people say,
"I tried to play this game with integrity." I
don't understand how that becomes such a factor in such a
cutthroat game. The game is not a game that can be played
all the way through with integrity. It's very
hard.
Boo: It's basically who does it
last.
DR: We talked about Yau-Man and how he
wasn't too duplicitous but very good with the strategy.
The one thing that people underestimated him in was the
challenges. He did very well. People were making fun
of him at first and that stopped pretty quickly. He showed
us again last night in the first challenge where he took home
another immunity. Check it out.
<video clip>
DR: First of all, Cassandra
looked like Mr. Magoo in that thing, off the course, looked a
little lost. I'm not sure I would have done much
better. Yau, did you surprise even yourself with how
well you did in the challenges? Obviously you're an older
guy. You're a svelte gentleman. You're not the
typical challenge dominator.
Yau-Man: I surprised myself, absolutely,
I did. Going into the game I didn't think I would be able
to win even one single physical challenge. I said, maybe I will
win the question and answer type challenges. The first
time I realized that I could go a long way is when I won the bow
and arrow and the javelin throw.
JM: That was a great challenge.
Yau-Man: When I looked back to the
previous one, the fire throwing, I was the only one who threw
the fireball, and before that, the pillow one, where I pushed
Stacy. She's a girl but she still weighed as much as I
did. Going back to where we walked the balance beam,
Michelle and I were the only ones that crossed it. I go,
"Maybe I have a chance here."
JM: When you first got on the island no
one could open the box except you.
DR: We have a very special caller from
the green room. Are you there?
Caller: I'm here.
DR: It's Dreamz calling. Dreamz
has got something he's got to get off his chest. He can't
wait til his segment. What's going on, dude?
Dreamz: I just wanted to say,
Jenna is the prettiest girl in the world.
JM: I love Dreamz. Boo, nice hat.
I like your hat.
Boo: Thank you.
Dreamz: This question is for
Yau-Man. Yau-Man, when you gave that truck out, when you
gave that truck to Dreamz, did you do it out of strategy or did
you sincerely do it to help a person or if it's both, which one
are you leaning to more?
Yau-Man: The truth is that as soon as I
found out that it was a car challenge and that truck is not my
lifestyle, I then decided to do something with it, use it as a
chip to bargain. That was the first thought then when I
came up with the idea of bargaining with someone for immunity I
thought about Dreamz because I know that Dreamz needed a
car. If you can call that out of the goodness of my heart,
yes. Dreamz needed a car more than anybody else.
JM: So it was a little bit of both?
Yau-Man: It was a little bit of both.
JM: That's not the first time that
happened. Like on my season Heidi said, "If anyone
wins the car would you please give it to me because I don't have
one."
DR: Dreamz put Yau-Man on the
spot. Dreamz, I tell you what, during your segment I'm
going to put you on the spot on that question so you better be
prepared, dude. In a few minutes you're all mine,
dude.
Caller: Boo, good job at the
TC. That definitely made for some good TV. Yau-Man,
I was hoping you'd win the second you broke that box. I
knew you were going to go to the final few there. Do you
guys think Dreamz would have maybe gotten a few votes when
asked if that was strategy or did he change his mind, if he had
just said that he did change his mind?
Boo: If he wouldn't have cried at the TC
I definitely think I might have given him a vote. If he
had came out and said, "Yeah, I'm keeping it, I'm sorry, I
was playing you the whole time." But he broke down
and cried and showed he had...
JM: Was it an easy decision to vote for
Earl? Obviously, for you, Yau-Man.
Yau-Man: Actually, no. For a fleeting
moment, I thought about voting for Dreamz, I really did.
DR: Why????
Yau-Man: I looked it and go, I've been
outplayed. That guy just played me. There is no
other way to get around that.
Boo: I wanted to vote for Cassandra but
they want us to stay in the game as our last chance to play the
game as a player and she left me for her advantage and I don't
have any hard feelings about that. But she left me so I
gave my vote to Earl. I didn't think it was going to
affect the vote. I thought it would be a landslide.
DR: You're saying that emotionally you
were pulling for Cassandra but strategically you felt you had to
give your vote to Earl?
Boo: Under the circumstances that she was my number one
and I was like her number four. When she finally gave me
up for me to continue the game all the way through, I had to
give my vote to Earl. I did think Earl played the better
game.
JM: Any thoughts to vote for Dreamz at all?
Boo: None.
Caller: Yau-Man, kudos to you. You played a great
game. It's too bad that Dreamz was not a man of his
word. Boo, there was a challenge where you beat up your
knee pretty bad. Jeff said that there was no sound
effects, that was your knee popping. Did you ever consider
throwing in the towel.
Boo: I had excruciating pain when it happened. I
tore my ACL. It cost $10,000 and eight months
recovery.
JM: Ask Earl for some money.
Boo: I didn't give any thought to throwing in the
towel. I didn't get up til I could bear the pain.
JM: Did it hinder you the rest of the game?
Boo: Not that much because I didn't have to sprint
full-speed. It hurt in the food challenge where we had to eat
the pork because it was such a weak ligament. Basically it
was just sore. I would never, ever throw in the towel.
JM: We didn't see much of you. Do you wonder why
that was?
Boo: What's that?
JM: We didn't see a lot of footage of you other than
you falling off the hammock, which we love. Do you think
that's because that was your strategy?
Boo: I don't think that was my strategy. I tried to
play the game the way it unfolded. Alex found out that he
couldn't control me when I voted with Lisi and Stacy. He
really wanted Cassandra gone at that point. It was easy to
give me up for Mookie, plus he had the idol. I had to go
seek refuge
Probst's Thoughts: "Boo, I said, going in, could win the
game. What I didn't know was that Boo would be so
clumsy. What's the deal? One of the strongest most
fit guys but keep the machete out of his hands. Boo, you
were a charmer. You seem to have played the game with a
lot of integrity. I like how hard you played the
game. I remember from early on that Boo was a player and I
hope you enjoyed your time out there now that's it all said and
done."
"Yau-Man, what's to say. You know how I feel about ya,
one of my favorite all time people on this show. I enjoyed
you from the moment I met you in the casting room up until the
moment you were no longer a part of this show which could have
been early, could have been late, only you guys know right
now. Yau-Man, I really enjoyed just who you are. I really,
really had a good time with you out there."
DR: Jeff Probst is smitten.
JM: He has strong feelings about a lot of people on this
cast.
Boo: He did also with Dreamz in the beginning but he
just kept that back and forth. Jeff is awesome. He
should be on Survivor. He's quick witted. He catches
things.
JM: He catches body movements, eyes.
DR: You've got to play him like a player in the
game.
Boo: I made my accent come out so thick, he was like,
"I don't understand you."
JM: We did see a long clip of you talking a lot.
Was that over exaggerated? The helicopter ride?
Boo: I was chatty but I really was excited. I was
having fun.
Yau-Man: I thought he was nervous about the helicopter
ride. On the way back there was a huge thunderstorm, rain.
DR: When you don't win Survivor you look back at the
big regret, the one thing where you wish you'd zigged instead of
zagged. I'm pretty sure I can guess what yours is but go
ahead.
Yau-Man: Mine is just not changing up the last few
minutes of Tribal and make Dreamz a different deal and see if I
can convince him to hand it over or create a tie vote with
me.
Boo: I would have seeked out my own alliance instead of
waiting to be chosen as a part of someone's alliance. I
chose Stacy after I was chosen and she didn't have the fortitude
to stick to an alliance because she didn't like my
character. I didn't like hers either but I stayed with her
until I found out she was voting me out. That's just the
way different people play.
Caller: Yau-Man, I've seen every episode of every
season of Survivor. You, sir, are one of my all-time
favorite Survivors. You also have Jeff Probst loving
you. You've got most of America on your side. You
could have got the million dollars if you were in the
final. How do you feel about this popularity all of a
sudden?
Yau-Man: I had no expectation that I would be so
popular. I had no expectation of lasting this long in the
game! So this is a big surprise to me and I'm still trying to
digest this and figure out what it means and what it means to my
life. I'm very surprised to find that I'm such a popular character
in America and finding myself in the D list.
DR: Are you comfortable with it, with being recognized,
strangers coming up?
Yau-Man: I'm just beginning to get used to it.
JM: It's weird because at the
reunion shows they ask people who would you have voted for if
this person...it's different because voting after you've seen
the show could really change your mind.
Boo: I think it would have been
unanimous over Earl because he [Yau-Man] didn't backstab
anyone. Everybody saw his work ethic in the camp. No
one would have voted for Earl because it was a battle going
against Earl.
JM: We forget that Cassandra was
in there, too.
Caller:
Boo, you are so gorgeous. Yau-Man, I have two questions
for you. The first one is, why didn't you trust Boo
enough? Boo is an honest guy and he isn't snaking on
anyone. My other question is, what were you thinking
when it's that final challenge and Dreamz just would not let
go? It was the exact same thing as giving you the
immunity. I knew right then that he wasn't going to give
it. I was furious. I had so much hatred toward
Dreamz.
JM: I said the same thing.
I knew he wasn't going to give it to you.
Yau-Man: As far as changing my
alliance to Boo, I didn't know Boo very well and I'm sorry I
didn't get to know him as well during the time on the
island. If I had known him better I would have considered
switching. I worked out my strategy and my alliance way
earlier. I wasn't about to keep switching back and forth,
over-analyzing the situation. If I had gotten closer to
Boo and gotten more in tune with his personality I may decide to
take him on.
DR: Guys, thanks a lot for being
here. Boo, you are a tough SOB going through that with
that knee situation, very impressive.
JM: Congratulations to both of
you for making it so far.
DR: Yau-Man, congratulations on a
game very, very well played.
