Adam = Adam Gentry
DR: It was a great show, a wrap
up to a good season.
JM: Boring reunion show.
DR: You had three really likeable
people in the final three that were respected for how they
played. I believe we have Adam online. Are you
there?
Adam: Yes I am Dalton.
JM: What about me?
Adam: Jenna, how are you
doing? You really gave me hell, Jenna.
JM: Awwww, that's not true.
Adam: Oh, come on now.
DR: Adam, I noticed something
last night when I was watching, you sort of were portrayed this
season as a very laidback, goofy, always sort of a smile on his
face. Candice even used the term "simple" when
she was the show. I don't know how you feel about
that. But then I went back and looked and I saw you did
extremely well in the puzzle portion of that crazy challenge...
JM: And the math challenge.
DR: ...even overtaking Yul.
You did a great job in that other challenge that you won
immunity. We also saw a puzzle challenge early on where
Raro, you, Jenny and Rebecca beat Aitu. So you did very,
very well in the intelligence puzzle challenges.
Adam: I have a question for you
Dalton. What does smiling a lot have to do with not having
to do puzzles?
DR: You know what I'm
saying. You were portrayed as this goofy guy. So who
is the real Adam is what we're asking.
Adam: Well I don't know. I
am a laidback guy and I guess I do smile a lot and I guess I am
goofy so I guess you're right on target there. I just like
to have a good time and try to be happy.
DR: Let's talk about the big
thing, the thing that Jeff Probst brought up last night about
the vote. We saw you on the show telling Yul, "if you
get rid of Jonathan first I'll give you my vote." Now
I don't have any problem in the show of using any sort of tactic
that you can to stay in the game. I guess my question is,
don't you feel maybe Adam that there should be some sort of separation
of church and state here in terms of what goes on when you play
the game and how you judge someone when you actually cast your
vote?
Adam: I voted for Yul because he
did vote out Jonathan ahead of me and I thought he was the
ringleader and had a lot of say in what went on with those
four. They're both deserving of winning the million
dollars. I would have voted Ozzy if Yul didn't do that for
me.
DR: Really?????
Adam: But I had to keep my word,
man. I told Yul I would do that and ummm so I did
it.
JM: Do you think that Yul was the
better player? If you would have so easily switched your
vote to Ozzy?
Adam: It's a toss up with those
two. They're both deserving. Obviously Ozzy is much
better at the competitions and the challenges and Yul is better
at strategy. I just wanted to keep my word and give Yul
the nod. So that's what I did. I thought after
Jonathan was voted out, Ozzy kept winning the challenges so at
that point when it was time to cast the vote I would have voted
Ozzy if I didn't make that promise to Yul.
JM: Parvati didn't keep her
word. She voted for Ozzy.
Adam: Yeah but Parvati didn't
have a lot to do with that. That was more of me. I
told Yul that I would try to persuade Parvati to vote for Yul
but it was really just me talking to Yul and not as much Parvati
talking to Yul.
JM: Do you think Parvati voted
for Ozzy because she got to see the great Cook Islands humpback
whale?
Adam: I think that had a lot to
do with it.
Caller: Hey Adam I love your
smile. I kept hearing the Aitu tribe saying, "We got
where we are because we worked together as a team."
They made decisions as a team and obviously competed in the
challenges as a team. Ozzy of course was a huge help but
together they won those challenges. They didn't win them
just because of Ozzy. What do you think your team...did
they lack the teamwork or what could your team have done better
to maybe win more of the challenges?
Adam: You're right, all four of
them had to compete. It wasn't just Ozzy but Ozzy was by
far the best competitor out of all twenty of us. He did
carry a lot of the weight for them. But I think we may
have gotten over confident. That was our flaw. As
long as we had the numbers we just kind of weren't too worried
about it. I think their backs were against the wall and
they fought. I tip my hat to them. I think that's
why they pulled through.
DR: Yeah, Adam because you're a
sports guy. You never want to face a desperate team.
Adam: Correct, correct.
DR: A team that's against the
ropes and once that mutiny happened they were so against the
ropes. I think you just said it, you guys maybe didn't
sense that urgency.
Adam: I think that had a lot to
do with it, yes.
DR: One other question I want to
bring to you. A very interesting thing you tried to do on
your way out which was forcing the use of that Hidden Immunity
Idol. Ozzy and Sundra wouldn't go along with it. Did
that surprise you that they didn't?
Adam: Not really. I didn't
really have too many options at that point. It was just me
against them four.
DR: Because if Ozzy does that he
probably wins the million dollars. If he forces Yul to use
it and Yul does not win the next challenge they can vote him
off. Ozzy is going to win a million dollars.
Adam: Ozzy's mentality out there
was just to win challenges.
JM: Yeah but he also threw the
one challenge. Everyone is saying that he is such a
competitor but he is throwing a challenge.
Adam: When it got down to the
individual challenges that's what he was all about. He
didn't want to hear anything. He didn't want to talk about
anything. He just wanted to win the challenges.
JM: Maybe if he would have paid
more attention to the strategy part he would have won the
million dollars.
Adam: Maybe so. But they
were loyal to each other. Their backs were against the
wall. It was those four against us eight and they just
didn't want to do anything against each other. You saw
when they split the vote with Becky and Sundra. They
handled everything in that manner.
JM: Did it seem to you like Becky
and Sundra were almost playing for second place?
Adam: Exactly. That's what
they were doing. They're great people. I like both
of them but yeah, you're right, they were just playing for
second.
JM: You're there to win, not just
play for second.
Adam: Well, what could they have
done?
JM: They could have forced...just
turned on them like everyone else.
Adam: But they would have never
won. They wouldn't have gotten the vote no matter
what. Ozzy or Yul was gonna win it. Or maybe me if I
would have won the challenges but it wasn't going to be Becky or
Sundra.
Caller: Adam, looking back, what
do you think was your biggest mistake?
Adam: Voting off Jenny. I wish we
would have let Jonathan go. We kept Jonathan around too
long and that was my mistake. I didn't think there was
anyway that Jonathan would have gone back. I thought that
Jonathan thought he had a better chance with our tribe. I
thought that he thought that there was no way he'd get better
than fifth place going to the other four because he knew they
were so tight and loyal. He had already left them once. I
didn't think he'd ever switch back over. If we would have
voted Jonathan out and kept Jenny, I think if Yul would have
approached Jenny like he did to Jonathan about the idol and
flopping, I think Jenny would have come back to us and talked to
us about it.
DR: Well Adam, thanks a
lot. I'm sorry we didn't get to have you on in person for
longer. But hey, congratulations, the last member of Raro
to be standing. Fifth place, well played.
JM: Good job. Good for you.
Adam: Thank you very much.
DR: Back after a quick break with
Sundra.
