DR: There he is, a million dollars
richer. Aras, congratulations.
Aras: Thanks very much. DR:
It's weird because it's the most subdued winning moment I have
ever seen in my life. Is that pure relief? Aras:
Yeah, you kind of think you could win it but you never know for
sure. You're nervous up there for sure. You get used
to the cameras after day three. From day 3 to 39 you don't
mind the cameras and then five months later you go back in front
of the cameras again. And I'm definitely not an actor. DR:
You don't quite have the resume that Shane has in that
department. Take us through what the day as been like,
especially for the winner. Aras:
We woke up super early today. Yesterday was a long day. Danielle:
It's all one day. Aras:
Yesterday our call time was 12:30 in the afternoon. We get
to the show about 9:30 to get set up for the reading of the
votes. And then after that it's kind of a blur. Today
has just been crazy. JM:
Answering the same questions. Danielle:
Over and over and over. DR:
Danielle, obviously a roller coaster ride, the past 24
hours. You do great. You come up short. You
can't help but be disappointed. Have you had time yet to put
it into perspective. "Like, I did great, I came in second." Danielle:
Regardless, I'm so happy that I made it to the two. Even
though I didn't win the million I still did well. It's a
huge accomplishment for me to make it as far as I did. JM:
You won that last challenge. Danielle:
That was huge. I beat the two best competitors on the
island. For me to beat both of them and be able to chose
which one to take was pretty cool. DR:
Terry thought he was going to do well because he had done some
surfing. You're a yogi you probably thought you would do
pretty well at this. Aras:
I'm not a yogi. I'm a yoga instructor. I'm
learning. It'll be a couple of lifetimes before we get to
that. DR: You had to
think you had an advantage. Aras:
I remember the night before, we were watching the sunset and I was
massaging Danielle's back and I was just telling her, "I
think you're going to win this one." I just had a
strange suspicion that she was going to get it.
JM:
Women have a tendency to win the endurance more than men. Aras:
You had to figure we had a strength thing going in. Danielle:
Yeah, you knew something different was coming. I said that
to Terry, too. There's going to be one of these challenges
that you're just not going to be able to win. I had
gymnastics so that definitely helped. JM:
You were strong for awhile. Terry was just... Danielle:
Terry was all over the place. He was off, he was on. DR:
Take us through exactly what was happening on there with the head
nod. JM: I saw you nod like
this, a couple times.
DR: What preceded the nod?
Danielle: We made an
agreement. He told me if he jumped would I take him.
DR: Before the challenge started?
Danielle: Before the challenge
started. Regardless I would have kicked his bum
anyway. I also told Terry I would take him, too. I was
kind of telling them both I would take them then I would decide
which would be the best way to go. That's why I did that
little head nod even though you were pretty much already falling
over. That was our little agreement before the challenge
even started, so.
Caller: I wanted to say to Aras,
congratulations. I think you did well representing the yoga
community. And especially Lithuanians, we're really proud of
you. Where can we find you now. What are you doing?
What are you working on? What if we want to take yoga with you.
DR: Aras' brother Vytas just
lapping that up there.
Aras: That's my brother. DR:
It's so funny because you're at the finale and everyone's got
their pockets of family but Aras' were so easy to pick out because
they were all 8 feet tall and have like Lithuanian tie dye t-shirts
on. They were a posse roaming around in there. JM:
What was really cool was walking out of the theater, the show's
over and there are literally roped off fans just waiting for you
guys. You guys walk out and they're screaming your name and
it's gotta be crazy. Danielle:
It was just awesome. It was a great feeling to know that
there was people out there that were rooting for you and that are
on your side regardless of the results. They still like you
and they still want your autograph. You feel like a
celebrity for that.
Aras:
I've been recognized on the street three times so far going up to
the Finale. It's a trip.
Caller: Danielle, I think you
played awesome. You definitely made an amazing run there
towards the end. Do you think you would have had a better
chance with Terry? Danielle:
No, I do not think I would have had a better chance with
Terry. I feel like a lot of the jury members gained respect
for Terry towards the end and Terry didn't have to vote out
anybody. As you guys know, when people get voted out they
get very bitter. Aras and I felt like we were in the same
boat as to where we both burned some bridges and killed some
alliances. I figured I had a better shot with Aras and
that's why I took Aras. Although it was a very risky choice because
both of them are super competitive and powerful. And plus I
stuck with my alliance. I stuck with my Casaya alliance until the
end. DR: Were there any
votes in that Final Two that surprised you? Like the one
vote, I got this vote, no problem. Danielle:
No because in the beginning, right when I got off the island I was
feeling good. Then as I started to watch the show I started
to realize that I didn't think that I won anymore. So it
really wasn't a surprise to me. It was better that way, I
think. Instead of thinking that I won and then get out there
and be totally shocked. At least you're able to prepare
yourself before you get there. Second place is still
fabulous. JM: It's only
been rare times when we've had real jury surprise votes. I don't
know if you can remember any. I can't, offhand. Danielle:
Usually you can figure it out. Danielle's
Time Capsule: Hey, as long as I gave it my all and gave
it 110% and put my heart and soul into it, I did the best I
could. That's all I can ask for. I'm happy wherever I
end up as long as I know that I gave my best. Aras'
Time Capsule: Aras if you're listening to this and you
got voted off first, don't ever talk to me again. No.
No, no, it's okay if you got voted off first, man. In fact
if you did get voted off first, whatever you did, just enjoy that
experience. I hope I did well or you did well. Just
enjoy it man, and you'll be fine either way. DR:
Aras you played a really good game. Bob Dog said you were
the most versatile player. So good in so many aspects.
You weren't the complete challenge hog or the complete social
strategizer. You were good at everything. Except those first
three days, your camp was a freaking mess.
Aras: I think all of us
expected to have Terry Deitz on our team. There was only
four people and so much work that had to be done. No one
wanted to step up because all young men know they are
targets. I didn't want to step up and be a target right
away. So you're really careful. With no one willing to
step up and no one knowing there's magnesium on the backside of
the flint, we were in big trouble. That's why I did
this. [hand gestures] The third night when Tina got
voted off it started to pour real bad and I was leaning against
Austin. There was nowhere to go. We were soaking wet
for hours at a time and I was ready to quit. I was like, get
me out of here.
JM: Rain drives people insane.
Danielle: It kills the wood. If
the wood gets wet you can't start a fire, you can't eat.
Your clothes are soaked. On Exile Island for 48 hours
especially.
DR: Danielle you weren't doing so hot
those first three days either on the young women's tribe.
You were only three people. You didn't have Misty
there. You're probably thinking there's going to be a Terry
Deitz around to carry all the lumber.
Danielle: We definitely thought
that. We thought there was going to be a Terry and when
there wasn't we tried to make do. We got some sort of a
shelter put together. Courtney had this contraption going
with the bamboo.
JM: One thing about Courtney. I
don't know if you knew but when you watched it back and you saw
her making those faces on the jury...
Danielle: Some of that was an editing
job I think.
JM: Sticking out her tongue.
Danielle: I expected it,
yeah.
Aras: We saw that when we were
going in and Courtney had been voted off. Courtney would
give us all pretty evil looks. Except for Shane. She
was really bummed when Shane got voted off. You could tell
that her heart was broken there.
JM: She has a crush on
him.
Danielle: It's like a love/hate
relationship between the two of them. They either like loved
either other or hated each other. It was the strangest
thing.
DR: Your whole alliance seemed
to have a love/hate relationship. You were so dysfunctional
yet so successful. It was just bizarre.
Aras: We had so many different personalities
but we also had great athletes. Danielle, Courtney is a
great athlete. I'm not a bad athlete, Bob Dog is not a bad athlete.
The Factor.
Danielle: His spirit alone just helped us out
a lot.
Aras: I just didn't know how to get along
really well. Maybe that was good for us.
JM: Maybe you should have sat on the thinking
seat.
Aras: I didn't know it was there. I had
no idea it existed. I wasn't there.
DR: I'm eating crow because I blasted you for not
getting rid of Shane when he wanted to quit.
Aras: It would have been really interesting to see what
happened if he'd left. I don't know if the four of us would
have stayed together.
Caller: When it was down to the final nine if you had joined
Austin and Terry on La Mina do you think you would have ended up
in the Final Two?
Danielle: Absolutely not. I stuck with my Casaya
members because I trusted them. I didn't know Terry from a
hole in the wall and I knew he was going to do whatever he
possibly could to get me to switch. I felt like I could get
further in the game with people I trusted. I didn't trust
Terry because I didn't really know him.
JM: In that last...the fire making challenge...you were trying
to convince Terry to give you the idol. If he would have
given it to you would you have went back to everyone else before
Tribal Council and said, he's [not] got the idol, let's get him
out of here?
Danielle: That's exactly what I was gonna do. But I
knew he wasn't going to give it to me. He knew, too, that
would have been really stupid at that point in the game and ruin
his chances of even making it to the three.
DR: Take a break...
