Segment 1:

DR:  Gregg I've been talking you up on Survivor Live and you let me down.  I've always said that if you get one of those overnight challenge rewards, never go.  And if you're going to go don't bring your two allies in the game.

Gregg:  I couldn't agree more but it was staring at me and I said...God I would love that.  I was trying to make a genuine innocent move by taking Jenn and Katie, they hadn't been on any rewards.  The smart thing would have been to let Ian go in my place because he hadn't been on any reward either.

JM:  His face was so telling when Jeff said you could take one more person.  He almost had a heart attack.  He looked like he knew for sure that it was going to be him.

Gregg:  Those guys were pretty disappointed.  They were bitter.

DR:  Did you feel that confident with Tom and Ian that they weren't going to break?

Gregg:  I just shut down at that moment.  Making an emotional decision, trying to be a good guy but still keep your mind in the game.  It's impossible to do, at least it was for me.  I made the worst possible combination.  I left my two biggest competitors, Tom and Ian, back to plot with Caryn who is desperate for a vote.  It was the smartest thing they could have done.

JM:  It happens alot.  Dave took Deena in my season.  And he was gone next.  Alex took me and he's gone from camp, he comes back and he's the one getting voted out.  Food makes people ugly in this game.

Gregg:  What it does...you go off on this trip and you build confidence.  You're out of the game, you like your position.  You lose focus.  You need to play this game with paranoia.

DR:  The look on Ian's face when you didn't take him on this challenge is something special.  You're next to Katie and you said "you save me and I'll save you".  What was going through your head?

Gregg:  I was playing this game to win whether right or wrong.  I should have blown this challenge.  It's just a game.

JM:  I don't think I would heckle people.

DR:  Probst was heckling you.

Gregg:  The funny thing is that next week on those previews Ian is crying saying he may quit for Katie so where's the real relationship?

JM:  We'll talk about it later but I think there's some kind of relationship there.

DR:  So you chose Jenn which wasn't a huge shock.

JM:  Well he asked Jenn if he could cut her rope, which I thought was cute.

Gregg:  I don't like being in those situations because I'm a genuine, honest guy.  I just crumbled.  I wanted to be respectful of previous relationships that I had.   It was pretty lame.  I've gotten my balls busted quite a bit over it and it's not going to stop.

JM:  Girls think it's cute.  Guys think it's lame.

Caller:  Did it hurt your feelings when Katie did that?  Did you see it coming at all?

Gregg:  I didn't see it coming at all because I had the blinders on.  For some reason I wanted to see the honesty and loyalty in this game and that was my biggest mistake.  Katie made the right move right then for her.  Why should she...you never know if it's going to be the right move.  I should have let Ian go.

JM:  That's hard to do.  Even if I had been on a hundred I wouldn't.

Gregg:  It's the best thing to just leave the island for a little while.

Caller:  I thought you were a great player even though I'm rooting for Tom.  The relationship aspect, even though it didn't work in All Stars, you tried to use it in this.

Gregg:  I wasn't thinking about All Stars.  I wasn't trying to emulate anyone out there.  Koror got on such a hot streak that these relationships just develop and you can't fight 'em.  The dynamics play out.  I had to play the game based on that.  You have to be real out there.  My move at the time was...okay, people are recognizing Jenn and I as an item, let's pull back.  And we did that, we pulled back.  Jenn was with the girls, I was with the guys.  We turned it down.  The reason why our names never came up til now is that we pulled back.  We were still connected and in two places at once.  And as soon as I took her on a challenge, that's where the strategy broke down.

JM:  That gave Caryn an opportunity to be like, look they're a couple.

Gregg:  I flashed it, flaunted it in front of them.

JM:  Just for a note, it did  work on the All Stars. It worked completely on The All Stars.  It doesn't necessarily have to be a male-female couple. Me and Heidi were a threat.  Anybody who pairs off and looks like they have more of a connection.

Gregg:  You try to deflect the energy elsewhere.  I don't think that I was voted off because I went with Jenn.  I didn't pick the right combination.  They voted me off because I was in a good situation at that time.

JM:  At the same time you have to find someone to bond with while you are  there.  Someone that you can trust in.

Caller:  Congratulations Gregg on getting so far in the game.  You talked about wanting to trust people.  When you were on the yacht with Katie she said she was going to do sneaky stuff because she was jumping from Tom and Ian to you guys.  How can you feel secure in an alliance with someone when they just told you to your face that they were going to do sneaky stuff?

Gregg:  At that point in the game when I'm out there on the yacht I have nothing to do but trust her.  It's the only card that I have left and I have to play that and assume that she's trusting.

DR:  I thought it was interesting that Tom and Ian's strategy was that Katie would be too chicken to go to the colored rock [tie-breaker].  Did they talk to her right before tribal council?

Gregg:  Yeah about 10 minutes.  And we talked about the colored rock on the yacht.  We said "if we're going to do this we're going to expose their strategy as being disloyal and dishonest and we're going to keep our word and vote Caryn off".   Of course it's all lip-service at the time to get her in the right frame of mind.  But do I expect her to take a purple rock for me if I have my back up against the wall?  It's a tough situation.  She did what she had to do.  Whether it was the best move for her in the long-run, we're going to find out.

DR:  What if they came to you with the same situation and said "Gregg, we're going to get Katie".

Gregg:  That's interesting because people had approached me about Tom the week we got Stephenie.  I said "we're sticking with this 5".  As stubborn as it was I had my reasons strategically.  Tom I always considered a buffer. As soon as he's gone it's my back.  I wanted to wait til the last moment to make my move on him.

JM:  I thought you would jump ship and vote for Tom.

Gregg:  I wanted to, I was just adamant about it coming down to the final five and stepping up immunity and going out that way and saying "hey I kept my word".  Then make a move and make Ian and Katie turn on Tom or vice versa.  And put these people in the position to stab the back of their ally.  Whereas I only had a 5 alliance with these people.  I wanted to position them to do the dirty work.

Caller:  Jenna, did you ever get a bad rap for using your sexuality?

DR:  Did you hit on anybody?

JM:  Of course I did!  I was going to do anything I could to those guys because they were melting in front of me and Heidi.

Gregg: There are different roles in this game.   Katie gets a bad rap for sitting around and doing nothing.  You're sitting around that camp for 6 or 7 hours a day.  It gets boring.  You're more valuable to me if you're entertaining and telling jokes all day than if you're gathering firewood.  That's a key role that Katie plays that you don't see.  She's hysterical.

Caller:  Gregg, you did allright, you worked hard, had a nice personality and were a team player.  They didn't really depict the relationship between you and Tom.  I figured that the two of you had very similar personalities.  Last week there was the girls alliance.  Did that conversation get back to you through Jenn?

Gregg:  With Tom, we had a great bond out there.   There was a mutual respect and we knew at some time we were going to be gunning for each other.  We had conversations that were like "at some point we're going to have to make a move on each other, let's try to play this game as fair as possible.  But at the end let's treat it like we're a bunch of buddies playing for 10 bucks and not let it get emotional.  That's the way we treated things out there.  My hat is off to all of them, they lasted longer than me.  And Jenn did approach me about voting Tom off.  My sentiments to Jenn were "Jenn, I'm not going to make your move for you. It's a good position for you to be in if you want to make a move and go to that all girls alliance. Go ahead.  But just know that you and Katie are in a good position with us guys, guaranteed to be in the final four.  That's a huge risk going in the final four against Stephenie because if she makes it to the final two no one has a chance.  Because she rips through Ulong and then she makes Koror eat each other apart.  And you're sitting next to Stephenie, the lone Kororian who pissed off everyone else on Koror.  There's no way you're winning".
